Hands down the WORST moving company I have dealt with.I booked for 1pm, the movers did not turn up until 4pmDuring this time I had to follow up regularly with the company asking when they were coming and kept receiving broken promises of timing to the point of ridiculousnessThe workers were drinking on the job (whilst driving to my new house!) and stunk out my houseThey did not have a navigator and all 3 of the movers phones were flat so had to convoy very closely to me to my new propertyThe movers proceeded to moan about their job and their boss/being overworked etc and even threatening violence to others all through my move to the point where I feared for my safety The only positive to come out of this experience is I only paid half of what I was quoted and was told to "keep me happy" none the less I should have been paid for what I went through! Highly recommended....travel from Tauranga to Auckland. they came early packed up I didn't have to do anything and unloaded in Auckland to my horror that some of the furniturewell the big stuff anyway, beds, couch, dining table would not fit, the joy of moving from a house to a townhouse. But with ease they came up with solutions .....even had to go through my neighbours yard and hall it up over the balcony, even then it wouldn't fit in the doors. But it wasn't a problem they managed to get it all into the house. So professional, curtious, and helpful.

Came on time. Excellent driver in difficult site. Great guys who were very pleasant and hard working. There were only 2 men, which meant the job lasted all day. Might have been better with 3 men in retrospect but I was happy.

Most awful moving company ever!!! Over-charged, very sporadic and unclear communications. Do not appear to be adhering to NZ tax laws. During the move my 88yr old landlady fell and broke her hip, 2 ambulances came and the movers needed to be at the next job. I said call when unloaded etc. given the circumstances I could not drive to their move location but offered to pay immediately by credit card over the phone. Was told no, you pay now. Staff text me and called me for hours, threatening to take my stuff. Also you pay now or we call the police. They were paid in cash the following morning as I had advised. Seemed friendly but then SO nasty, didn't care that my neighbour was critically injured. It was all about threats and cash payments

There's plenty of moving horror stories out there and don't you want to make sure whoever is moving your valuable possessions has a proven track record? Choosing the wrong mover can drastically increase your costs if your items are broken and damaged due to carelessness, they may take longer than a more professional moving company so your final costs might actually be higher. So compare pricing but don't base your final decision on who is the cheapest but who is the best for your move.
There isn't a standard way moving companies charge or come up with their pricing. However, in general for local moves within the same city, moves are quoted at an hourly rate which is based on the size of your move and number of movers you need. There is often a one off call out fee included as well and is often charged out as an additional hour. Some movers don't have call out fees or only include them in certain areas if they have to travel further away. For example outside of central Auckland. Your final costs will be based on how long your move takes so choosing a reputable mover through a service such as MovingPros who is efficient can help keep your final costs down.
For inter-city moves you will often get a fixed price quote so you know exactly how much you will be paying. This wil be based on the size or volume of your move and distance, including travel to and from your drop off destination. Using the nationwide carriers with multiple depots can provide for more cost-effective quotes or a mover who is travelling back empty from your pick up location (also known as a backload move). Hourly rates vary based on the size of the truck required, number of men and day of the week. Higher hourly rates are often quoted for weekends and public holidays. For 1 - 3 bedroom house moves with 2 men, on average you will be looking at between $80 - $120 per hour depending on the day of the week. For moves that are 3 bedroom or bigger with 3 men, on average you will be looking at between $120 - $180 per hour depending on the day of the week.
This depends on the size of your move and most professional moving companies will recommend how many men you should have based on your move type. Typically 2 men is standard for most smaller size house moves of 1 - 3 bedrooms. Even for moves of a few items or less due to awkward, heavy and bulky items and they have the experience and expertise to ensure they are lifted, loaded and secured properly and remain damage free. You can save on costs if you assit the movers as an extra man but would want to ensure you are strong and capable and it's always recommended you let the professionals handle it. From 3 bedroom moves and above 3 or more men is usually recommended. Although the hourly rate will be higher, the move can often be done twice as fast so overall you end up saving money. Remember the saying many hands make light work!
